2025 Toyota Prius: What’s New, Specs, and Features
2025 Toyota Prius: What’s New, Specs, and Features
20 years ago, if the Prius came up in casual conversation, it was likely as a punchline. But despite the forward-thinking hybrid EV’s lukewarm reception in some circles, it’s gone on to become one of the most beloved cars in Southern California and beyond, with countless awards and amazing reviews.
Now that it’s been on the streets near Oxnard, CA for a quarter century, we figured now was a perfect time to check it out in-depth to see why it’s still one of the best hybrid cars money can buy. Here’s everything you need to know.
What’s New in the 2025 Toyota Prius?
Since it got a major generational update a couple years ago, the Prius hasn’t seen many changes this year—as they say, if it ain’t broke, why fix it? Still, there are a couple of exciting embellishments worth mentioning.
The biggest change is the addition of the Nightshade grade, which can be found on many other Toyota models. It builds off the XLE version, and it’s distinguished by its blacked-out exterior accents, black-finished 19-inch rims, and exclusive new paint color, Karashi.
2025 Toyota Prius Specs and Features
Now that we’re up to speed on new features of the 2025 Prius, here’s all the other details about this world-class compact hybrid.
2025 Prius Fuel Economy and Powertrain
The Prius is motivated by the award winning fifth-generation Toyota Hybrid System, which provides and excellent blend of economy and power. Not only does this setup allow it to get up to 57 combined MPG, but it makes it fun to cruise around in, too—in their review, Car and Driver gave the 2025 Prius a flawless 10 out of 10 score, calling it “stylish, zippy, and enjoyable to drive.”
The system consists of a 2.0-liter 4-cylinder engine and two motor generators, which crank out a combined 194 horsepower and allow the new Prius to do a 0 to 60 run much quicker than previous models.
To give it an even more dynamic feel, the Prius has multiple available drive modes, including Normal, Eco, Power/Sport, and EV. EV Mode even allows it to operate solely on battery power for short bursts, improving gas mileage even further.
Front-wheel drive is standard, but all grades can be optioned with Electronic On-Demand All-Wheel Drive. This system adds an additional electric motor at the rear axle, creating 196 horsepower while significantly boosting acceleration and traction.
2025 Prius Interior and Exterior Features
Inside, the Prius has a clean and uncluttered vibe, with dual display screens staggered at different heights for better visibility. All grades come with a 7.0-inch digital driver info display, and there are two center touch screens available. The LE and XLE have an 8.0-inch center screen, while the Nightshade and Limited trims get a giant 12.3-inch display.
Regardless of which grade you choose, it comes standard with useful features like wireless Apple CarPlay®/Android Auto™, Bluetooth® audio, SiriusXM® capability, 6 USB ports, and access to the full range of Toyota Connected Services, including in-vehicle Wi-Fi. Other available features include wireless device charging and an 8-speaker JBL sound system.
The exterior of the Prius maintains its distinctive shape while also including modern tweaks to optimize gas mileage and maximize style. Apart from the aforementioned Karashi exterior paint, available colors for the 2025 Prius are Guardian Gray, Cutting Edge, Supersonic Red, Reservoir Blue, Wind Chill Pearl, and Midnight Black Metallic.
2025 Prius Safety
The Prius has a long track record as being one of the safest compact cars on the road. The 2025 version has yet to be evaluated by experts, but the nearly identical 2024 Prius earned a Top Safety Pick+ award from the IIHS, which is their highest distinction.
As with the previous year, all Prius models come standard with the latest driver assistance tech, Toyota Safety Sense 3.0. Safety features include:
· Full-Speed Range Dynamic Radar Cruise Control
· Pre-Collision System with Pedestrian Detection
· Lane Departure Alert with Steering Assist
· Lane Tracing Assist

Additional standard safety features include Blind Spot Monitor with Rear Cross Traffic Alert.
